On the eve of my 24th birthday, I thought it would be fitting to share some of the life lessons I've learned over the past 23 years. Some deep, some obvious and some light-hearted. Here's 23 Things I Learned At 23:
Healthy hair is better than long hair and long hair doesn’t equate to beauty
Straight A’s means nothing if you did not learn anything
Always apologize when you’ve done something wrong
It’s okay to make mistakes, as long as you learn from them
Let people walk out of your life, but do not let them be a revolving door.
Invest in at least 2 good perfumes. One for the day and one for the night.
Diets never work
Always have a hobby outside of work
Never audition for love
Forgiving yourself is just as important as forgiving others.
Don’t eat at everybody’s house.
The voice of anxiety is loud and fleeting, your gut is quiet and consistent. Trust the latter.
Make sure your inner circle reflects your values.
Never switch your eyebrow lady (or man), your hairdresser (or barber), or your wax lady.
It’s never too late to start
Keep your beauty routine simple enough that you can do it consistently and anywhere
Make being a good friend a priority
Perfection doesn’t exist.
Before making any decision ask yourself "is this really what I want to do?"
Always say “please” and “thank you”
It’s not what you say but how you say it
Always be teachable
Life is hard, but it’s always worth living.
Love,
-M
